Set up to foster an interest in the Actor-Manager SIR HENRY IRVING (1838-1905), central figure to late Victorian Theatre, the Society promotes the study of his artistic achievements at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, London, and his cultural contributions to Nineteenth Century Society, both in the U.K. and the U.S.A.
The Society publishes a twice-yearly Journal, First Knight, and a quarterly newsletter, The Irvingite. It arranges lectures and exhibitions and endeavours to safe-guard memorabilia and places associated with the actor.
